Jamaluddin Afghani’s prediction on unity of AfPak coming true
Posted on 12 November 2012.
Syed Jamaluddin Afghani, one of the greatest Muslim born in Kunar says:
In the present, foreigners have divided up Eastern lands, whose backwardness must have a cause. If we examine realities philosophically, we find, for our backwardness, only two basic causes: prejudic (ta`asub) and tyranny (istibdad). The only thing that will help us emerge from our present difficulties is zeal. Zeal is possessed by only some citizens who know that their honor is only in their race (jins), that power is only in their community (Ummah) and their glory is only in their fatherland (watan)
Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani was an Islamic scholar who worked towards Muslim unity, modernization, and stressed resistance against European colonialism. He was also an advisor to many Muslim rulers of his time, and even today, his ideas are very influential. Afghani was born in 1838 in Asadabad, Kunar. He died in 1897. In late 1944, his remains were taken to Afghanistan and laid to rest in Kabul near Ali ‘Abad, a mausoleum was erected for him.
What he said yesterday is so very true today:
“Today the religion of Islam is like a ship whose captain is Muhammad (peace is with him) and all Muslim are passengers of this holy ship and this unhappy ship is caught in a storm and threatened with sinking, and unbelievers and free thinkers (ahl-i-zandaqah) from every side have pierced this ship. What is the duty of the passengers of such a ship threatened with sinking and its inhabitants close to perdition? Should they first try to preserve and save this ship from the storm and from sinking or instead bring the ship and each other to the verge of ruin through discord, personal motives and petty disagreement?”
Jamauddin Afghani dedicated his whole life to the defense of the Islamic commonwealth, and moving restlessly throughout the Muslim world, Al-Afghani appealed to the rulers of the Muslims to gather their subjects against Western imperialism….
….Comparing the Ummah to a living organism, all Muslim groups to the body parts of that organism and Prophetic order to its soul, Al-Afghani divided that soul into its prophetic and philosophic parts.
See what Afghani says about unity of all Muslims:
“It will be gathered from this brief summary of his life and deeds that the goal towards which all his actions were directed and the pivot on which all his hopes turned, was the unanimity of Islam and the bringing together of all Muslims in all parts of the world into one Islamic Empire under the protection of one supreme Caliph. In this endeavor he spent all his energies and for this end he abandoned all worldly ambitions taking to himself no wife and adopting no profession.”
…Comparing himself with Abu Muslim and regarding the Ottoman Sultan as central to Muslim unity, he expressed great enthusiasm in accepting the challenge of uniting the Ummah Islamiyyah under one supreme Caliph and in liberating Muslim lands from western control.

The nasty cliché about Pakistan was written in Bharat and propagated by the Bharatis
The Americans know the area as AfPak. The world has recognized the unity
The Indus Valley has existed for 5000 years. Punjab has existed for 5000 years in the valley of the Indus. Afghania (Khyber Pakhtunkhawa) has existed for 5000 years in the valley of the Indus. Kashmir has existed for 5000 years in the valley of the Indus. Iran/Baloch and Sarhad area have existed for 5000 years in the valley of the Indus. Sindh has existed for 5000 years in the valley of the Indus. Balochistan has existed for 5000 years in the valley of the Indus.
Pakistan is an acronym for Punjab-Afghania-Kashmir-Iran-Sindh-Balochistan and has existed for 5000 years.
Your temple indoctrination is as flawed as your misrepresentation of history. Pakistan as a resurrection of the nation state has existed since 1947, but as a geographic and political entity has existed for thousands of years.
There are Hazara, Pakhtun, Uzbeks and Tajiks–all areas of neighboring states cobbled together in a manufactured buffer state called “Afghanistan”. It was an en experiment to keep the Indus Valley (Pakistan)–at the time occupied by the British– separated from mother Russia.
That experiment has failed. The world is sick of Afghanistan, and the super-powers are sick and tired of trying to hold it together. The super powers and Bharat think that the best solution is to bifurcate it–allowing Northern Alliance to form their own country and the Pakhtuns to secede to Pakistan. The various tribes are proud to be Achakzai, and popalzai and Hazara, not proud to be “Afghan” a term imposed by the British. Another decade of civil war awaits the tribes. There is no central language, Persina, Darri, Pushto, Tajik, and Uzbek is spoken in the diverse land of the Hindu Kush.
Pakistan has opposed the bifurcation of Afghanistan.
It is amazing that you think that Hindustani muslamans reside in Hindustan. Hindustan changed its name to Bharat 60 years ago.
For Pakistanis Jamaluddin Afghani and Iqbal our our heroes. There are no Hindustani Musalmans, or Afghai Muslmans, or Pakistani Musalmans–there is only one ummah and it is Musalman period.
Neel keh sahil se laikar kab aKashgar–aik houn Muslim haram kee pasbani keh liyeh (your regional model)
King Zahir Shah had agreed to a union of Afghanistan in 1956, with King Zahir Shah as the king–when Liaqat Ali Khan was to announce the merger — he was assassinated–and the dream was put on hold.
From 1998-2001 Afghanistan and Pakistan functioned as one country.
50,000 Afghans cross the border with Pakistan everyday without any visas. 6 million Afghans were born in Pakistan. 3 million Afghans live in Pakistan today.
It was Pakistanis which liberated Afghanistan from the Russians–a fact acknowledged even by Mr. Karzai (the Mayor of Kabul). It was East of the Indus people who fought the British at Maiwand and Gandawak giving the British their biggest defeat.
“They” can try to scream from the rooftops–but Pakistan and Afghanistan exist as one entity today. After 2014 they de facto relity of AfPak will be de jure.
